Preteen and Teen Therapy in Houston

Helping Preteens and Teens Navigate Life’s Challenges with Confidence

The tween and teen years are filled with self-discovery and significant developmental changes happening within the brain and body. Tween and Teen Therapy at B Well Counseling Center can help tweens and teens manage the emotional rollercoaster and challenges that often feel overwhelming when combined with the influence of social media, friends, and school.

Teen therapists can help you break down communication challenges

Adults facing their own stressors often forget tweens and teens are dealing with problems that feel just as big to them as the ones adults face. It can be hard for tweens and teens to trust in the wisdom of those who have come before them when life today looks and feels so different from when their parents were kids.

Tween & Teen Therapy creates a space for their voice to be heard with a therapist trained to address all the issues tweens and teens face today. We uphold confidentiality so they feel secure when sharing thoughts and feelings they believe would be judged elsewhere. Tween and Teen Therapy provides an outlet to release the difficult parts of being this age while learning to navigate the journey of growing into adulthood.

PRETEEN and Teen Therapy IN HOUSTON

Small Habits, Lasting Benefits

As tweens and teens learn to make good choices and healthy decisions, they begin to build confidence and resilience. The beginning habits of self-care have lasting benefits as they enter into young adulthood.
Preteen and Teen Therapy is one of these small habits that delivers many rewards, including:

  • Gaining better self-awareness & confidence
  • Establishing a self-care routine
  • Learning communication skills
  • Developing coping skills to deal with anxiety, depression, stress, and childhood traumas

How Does Therapy for Teens Work?

Tween & Teen Therapy works by establishing a safe connection between parent/guardian, tween/teen, and counselor. We offer a free 15-minute consultation with the therapist of your choice. During the consultation, you will find the answers to your/your teen’s questions to determine if you have found a good fit.

Depending on the circumstances, the first session may include both your tween or teen and yourself to establish goals and gain a broader view of the topics that need to be addressed. It’s important for your teen to feel comfortable and safe with their counselor, and in order to gain trust and success, confidentiality will be established between therapist and teen.

Tween and Teen Therapy sessions encourage your teen to freely talk about what they choose without judgment and with their therapist’s guidance, providing a listening ear with full attention and respect.

Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy For Teens & Pre-teens

Everything you need to know about beginning teen therapy at B Well Counseling Center.
What issues do tweens and teens come to therapy for?
Teens come to therapy for a wide range of concerns, including:
  • Anxiety, panic, and constant worry
  • Depression, low mood, and loss of motivation
  • Stress, burnout, and academic pressure
  1. Social anxiety, friendship issues, and feeling left out
  1. Low self-esteem, body image concerns, and self-criticism
  • Emotional outbursts, irritability, and difficulty regulating emotions
  • Family conflict, parent-teen communication struggles, and feeling misunderstood
  • Life transitions (moving, changing schools, divorce, blended family changes)

  1. Trauma and distressing experiences

What are the benefits of working with a therapist who specializes in teens?
Teens respond best when they feel respected, understood, and not lectured. Therapists who specialize in adolescent work know how to build rapport without forcing conversation, how to translate big emotions into practical skills, and how to balance teen autonomy with parent involvement. They also understand the pressures teens face today (social dynamics, school expectations, identity development) and can tailor therapy so it feels relevant and realistic, not generic.
How do you handle confidentiality for teen therapy?
Confidentiality helps teens feel safe enough to be honest, which is essential for progress. Parents and caregivers typically receive general updates about goals and themes, but specific details stay private unless there is a safety concern. We’ll review confidentiality boundaries clearly at the start so everyone understands what to expect.
Why choose B Well Counseling Center? - Group Therapy for Teens
B Well Counseling Center is made up of highly skilled clinicians across a wide range of specialties so you are always in good hands no matter what brings you to therapy. Our genuine desire is to understand and acknowledge that all emotions are information. Once the cause of the emotion is uncovered, healing can begin.  We are here to listen and guide you with respect and dignity to embody your optimal emotional health and be well. We are honored to join you on your journey to wholeness.

For many teens, group therapy is a powerful complement to individual therapy, or a great starting point on its own. Groups give teens a structured, supportive place to practice social skills, communication, confidence, and emotional regulation with peers who “get it.” It can feel less isolating than one-on-one therapy, and it often helps teens build real-world skills faster because they practice them in real time. (We can recommend the best group based on your teen’s age and needs.)
What if my teen doesn’t want to talk?
That’s common, especially early on. A big part of teen therapy is creating enough safety and trust for your teen to open up at their pace. Many teens communicate best through gradual conversation, practical tools, or structured activities rather than being put on the spot. The goal is not to force talking, but to build a relationship where talking becomes easier.
How are parents involved in the process?
Parent involvement is often helpful, but it’s done intentionally. Depending on needs, that might look like periodic parent check-ins, occasional joint sessions to improve communication, or coaching on how to support your teen at home. We aim to keep teens empowered while also giving parents clarity and tools, especially when family dynamics are part of the stress.
Do you offer teen therapy in-person or online? Which is better?
We offer both in-person sessions in Houston and virtual therapy options when needed. In general, in-person teen therapy tends to work best when motivation is low, emotions run high, or home distractions make it hard to focus. Online sessions can still be a great fit for busy schedules, transportation barriers, or when consistency is the main priority. If you’re unsure, we can help you choose the format that supports your teen’s goals.
